About Us

Troop 320 is an active Boy Scout Troop in the Town of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.  We are a unit within the Black River District of the Occoneechee Council.

Originally chartered in 1951, Troop 320 has been continually serving Fuquay-Varina for the past 40 years. It has been awarded the Quality Unit award for the past 39 years.

Troop 320 goes by the "Orange Crush" nickname, a reference to the color of their hats and the colors of Fuquay-Varina High School. This name was given to them by fellow troops as 320 arrived at summer camp in a very large, old and crinkled orange school bus many years ago.  A tradition of the troop is to hand out cans of Orange Crush soda to other scouts at summer camp.

Join our troop.  We will be meeting in the Centrum  at 100 Judd Parkway SE, Fuquay Varina from 7:30 PM until 9:00 PM.

Watch this brief, scout produced, video about our troop.

Important Information for Trip

Departure time:

Meet at Mr. Traylor’s farm in time for a 5:00 departure time – Vans will leave at 5:00 sharp

Bring a duffle bag only (this is NOT an action packer trip). You will be in your class A’s 90% of the time. Therefore the only other clothes you will need are some casual clothes for hanging out at in the squad bay at night and what you will need for sleeping. Speaking of sleeping, there will be bunk beds with mattresses so bring either a sleeping bag or sheets and a blanket, and a pillow. In addition if you have a small chair or stool you can bring that as we’ll have an indoor “campfire” (meeting) that night in the squad bay.

All meals are provided in the cost of this trip except for dinner on the way up Friday night (bring a bag meal) and lunch on the way back Sunday afternoon (bring lunch money).

Spending money:

The only money you will need is lunch on the way back. There will also be opportunities to purchase souvenirs at the Museum and possibly at Petersburg Battlefield if we stop on the way back. We will also visit the Marine Corps Exchange. This is basically like a SEARS or Walmart which has a wide variety of things to purchase. There is no need for the Scouts to buy anything, but there is a chance there may be some Marine souvenirs there or some military type camping supplies that might interest the Scouts. Also, the added advantage of shopping here is you don’t pay sales tax.

Permission Slip:

You must have a signed troop permission slip.

Balance of cost:

The total cost of the trip is $23.00. Bring the balance that you owe with you and turn it in when you turn in your permission slip (for the majority of Scouts the balance will be $13.00).

We will drive to Quantico, VA on Friday, 02/16/18, and stay on MCB Quantico on Friday and Saturday nights.  Our accommodations will be in a Quonset hut/Squad bay (Just like Marines used to sleep in).

On Saturday we  will visit the Museum of the Marine Corps.  In addition to experiencing the many exhibits that display the Marine Corps history, we will also see a movie together entitled, “We, The Marines.”  The movie follows the journey of a Marine from boot camp, to deployment, to homecoming.

Tentatively, we will also get to meet a Viet Nam war vet who will talk to us about his experiences and show us some of his gear (this presentation will count for requirements towards the American Heritage MB)

Lunch on Saturday will be at the museum’s restaurant, the Devil Dog Diner.  Dinner that night will be in a Marine Corps mess hall.

Time permitting, on Sunday, before we leave to come home, we’ll visit the Petersburg or Fredericksburg Civil War Battlefield.

Sign-Up Deadline:           Midnight on Monday, January 29, 2018

Due to the added security procedures our troop must follow to stay on base, no one can be added to this trip after the deadline has passed.  If a Scout must back out at the last minute we cannot  substitute another Scout in their place. Also, once you have signed up, you are committed financially. In other words, if you back out, you still must pay.

Cost:                                 Approximately $25

        • $25 – approximate cost for group meals, and movie (final cost TBD)

        • Scouts will also need spending money for lunch on the way home and any souvenirs they may want from the museum. (Remember, bag dinner for Friday night).

Departure Time:              TBD

  • Friday after school.  Exact time TBD

Forms to fill out:              Scouts must have the following or cannot attend.
