This will be a stamina building trip for Northern Tier participants.  Other HA members not attending Northern Tier are also welcome.

We will be backpacking in Panthertown Valley.

Panthertown Backcountry Area is part of the Nantahala National Forest. This area is sometimes referred to as the "Yosemite of the East." There are granite rock domes with 300-ft. cliffs, deep gorges, broad valleys, bogs, trout streams and many waterfalls. There are more than 30 miles of maintained and marked trails. Oh, and its a bear sanctuary so we may see some black bears.

Departure: On Friday, 8/23, arrive at the Farm NLT 4:30 for a 5:00 departure (Its about a 5.5 hour trip out there so we'll want to get on the road as soon as possible)

Return: Late afternoon or early evening on Sunday, 8/25 (It all depends on the route we plan an how early we get on the road on Sunday).

Misc. Details:

  • We'll cover 10 - 15 miles over the course of the weekend (maybe more depending on route selection)
  • Bag dinner for Friday night. Backpacking type meals by patrol on the trail. Money for lunch on the way home.

More details to be posted when available.
